I’m still trying to completely understand the umask command. I get that it affects the default permissions for new files and folders, but I’m having trouble fully understanding how it works in practice.<br />

From what I’ve read, umask removes certain permission values when a file or directory is created. For example, I’ve seen examples using 022, 002, and 077, but I’m not sure how to decide which one to use. How do I know what the “right” umask value is for a normal desktop user...<br />

Whenever I try to use Shift + : to enter command mode in Vi, nothing happens. I have to manually type : for it to work. This happens consistently, and I’m not sure why.<br />

When USB Image Writer finishes the process, the User shows as Owner, but can not write to it. Unable to change being the user, I logged into root, opened Dolphin and right-clicked the flash drive, went to Permission tab, and ticked the check boxes to give all permissions to the use. I got an error saying that I don&#039;t have sufficient privileges to perform the action.<br />

When I press cntrl+b immediately followed by % sign to create a new BASH window split vertically it flashes and just leaves the letter b. What does this mean? I will copy and paste the lab steps below for reference.<br />
