Slow connection to FC6 system post-LAMP install?

    Greetings,

First, I'm an utter novice.

I have a FC6 system running on a HP dc7700p PC (4 GB RAM, 2 250GB HDD's, Intel Core 2 Duo [Intel Q965 Express Chipset], at 2.13 GHz, Gigabit ethernet, ATI Radeon X1600XT video card). After installation of the LAMP server according to the How-to (omitting the ISPConfig, BIND database, and mail server), I noticed a big slow-down in my remote connection (but from within the LAN) to the system via a SSH client. Also the Apache web server was VERY slow to serve pages from this system to my office PC (within the LAN).

Any suggestions as to how I can go about diagnosing and resolving this problem?

    AdvTHANKSance,

Take a look at the logs in the /var/Log directory.

    dmesg dump

Yes. Here is the dmesg dump. I seem to now have broken httpd as it will not start - I will attempt to reconfig. Still the connection time with SSH is very slow. It does appear from the /var/log/secure log that SSH does a reverse DNS lookup. I understand this can slow things down. The Apache server may be doing the same thing. In either case I am unsure how to turn reverse lookup off.

    Here is the dump:

Can you post the exact message? What's in /etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf? What's the output of
    Code:
    hostname
    and
    Code:
    hostname -f
    ?

The results of both hostname and hostname -f are
    Code:
    gnlewis.ic.edu
which is the hostname of my system.

Here is the contents of /etc/hosts:
Here is the contents of /etc/hosts.resolv
Here is a bit of the secure logfile (showing sshd activity). What's up with the error on port 22 "can't bind port 22 address already in use"?
