Hi new to forum, I have installed debian etch using your guide. I have installed ISPConfig. I have setup ISPConfig. I want to host a friends site with his own domain. He's set his nameservers to ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com I think I have setup ISPConfig correctly... All services are running green. Is there any help or a guide that I can use for this? #edit Do I need to install anything other than ISPConfig?
You can not use forwarded domains. The domain must point with a DNS-A-Record to the IP of your server.
same thing... you no what i meant, he has changed his DNS to my ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com... They have updated and when I dig his domain it is pointed to my nameservers not his default 1's. e.g. (dns1.register.com dns2.register.com... ) So I dont need any other software like a virual hosting setup?
From one rookie to another....if you don't mind... Here is how I get my sites up and running and it only takes about 10 to 15mins. and the site is up and viewable. I will use your situation but the steps i take to do task at hand. Friend has= xyz.com hosted somewhere. You have= ispconfig with IP of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 1. You login to ispconfig while he logs onto to where has site hosted to point to your server IP. 2. You set up client account in ispconfig 3. Create website with the same name as your friends site. 4. click to create dns entries and select all you need..php and so on.. 5. create user/email account don't forget to select antivirus and so on... 6. Once friend has pointed to your server IP. i.e. with godaddy i click to manage dns/mx records and i make the "@" point to my IP. Now the @ pointing to your IP will make www and ftp go to you. .....withing a short time the www.xyz.com// will be going to your server. 7. of course you need to add your files via ftp so there will be some down time on the site. I hope i've helped and not hurt you and this task...if the experts here can correct anything I've said please do...as i have said...this is how i do it..but heck...i'm a rookie too...
