    Hi all,

I've followed this HOWTO, on a fresh install.
When I send an email to a user (created in mysql), the directory /home/vmail/domain/user is not created....

    oups

I've solved, the problem was I first understand that the "transport" table was for specify outgoing relay.... pfff

    It works fine now.

    Have a nice day :)

    Different problem but same howto.

I have mine working quite well with one exception, I can't remotely send a e-mail using SSL.

At work, sending mail and using the machine at home as my SMTP server, it won't send if I check SSL, it does work with TLS on port 25. I am not seeing errors in the logs. If I am on the machine of course it all works. I need to be able to send mail from work and I would like it to be SSL, just for that extra layer of security.

I can log in to CHECK mail with SSL no problem.

Does your ISP maybe block port 465?

I called to double check and they claim not to be blocking any ports at all (although its at home, its a business account and supposed to be open to the world).

I can telnet to ports 25, 110 and 993 and get connected, 993 never returns which I assume is correct, it at least connects.

    Code:
    telnet mail.myhost.com 465
Connecting To mail.myhost.com...Could not open connection to the host, on
     port 465: Connect failed
So something else is not correct, this non-connect explains why nothing shows up in the logs. For now, I am using TLS but any ideas ?

    netstat -tap does NOT show 465, it shows 10024, 10025, 3306, 80, 25, 993, 995, 110, 143, 22

    Different question

To back up the users mail, I would backup the MySQl database as well as the /home/vmail directories correct? in the event of a system meltdown i can reinstall and configure the postfix, courier...etc then restore the /home/vmail directory and I should be fine I'd assume?

How's your IPTables and firewall configs? IPTables won't show up in the logs unless you're logging that particular rule.

Do you get any messages in the postfix logs at startup?

    Yes, that should work. :)

I'm thinking I'd also have to restore the database as well.

Besides backing up the configs, is all the users mail kept in /home/vmail?

    Yes, that's right.

    Thanks for the replies Falko.

Would you suggest Tar for backing up the /home/vmail directory?

Yes. You can do it like this:
    Code:
    cd /home
    tar -pczf vmail.tar.gz vmail/
