Hi All! Leopard worked fine when that was the only operating system on the computer.. after I installed the Ubuntu, leopard was not being recognized by the grub. I have edited the grub (source - http://www.howtoforge.com/working_with_the_grub_menu) and managed to change the background too, however when I choose Leopard to boot from, it comes up with the error - Error 12 : Invalid device requested. This is the sudo fdisk -l result.. umang@umang:~$ sudo fdisk -l [sudo] password for umang: Disk /dev/sda: 250.0 GB, 250059350016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00074fb8 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 1 2188 17575078+ 83 Linux /dev/sda2 2189 26511 195374497+ 5 Extended /dev/sda5 * 2189 26511 195374466 af Unknown How do I go about fixing this error ? Thanks Umang PS: do not have / want windows on my computer.
According to the comments here: http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_linux_and_windows_xp_linux_installed_first.htm you need to run Code: root (hd0,0) within GRUB.

RE: Error:12 Invalid Invalid device requested Hi Falko! will try that, however the Ubuntu is booting fine, its the leopard partition that come up with the error when choosen - Error:12 Invalid Invalid device requested. Thanks Umang
I did that.. it gives me another error message.. Error 21: Selected disk does not exist is it directing to a leopard OS install issue ?
it gives me the same error message.. Error 21: Selected disk does not exist Doh.. I don't want to give up, I can just run the native OS on my mac, but Ubuntu is eye candy with the wand effect an cube thingy.. i want to dual boot..
I reinstalled Leopard.... same error.. I am sorry to say, I have almost lost patience.. I don't know when i'll erase the Ubuntu partition from the Leopard disk.. Am pullyn out my hair on attempting this now..
I erased Leopard and changed the format to Fat32 from extended journaled.. has no one tried a dualboot between Leopard and Ubuntu ? should having the grub dualboot leopard and ubuntu not be simple ? c'mon, Both are Unix based OSs.. Duh-huh.. i'll wait for 2 more days or Leopard all the way..
Thank you thecaoticone.. I shall try this.. am fraid on running the bootcamp partition assistant.. i'll need to have 10.5.3 to do so and there are a few apps that are not supported above 10.5.2(which is what I have on the Leopard disk) and also i'll need to erase ubuntu 1st start from the scratch Bootcamp thingy is a utility, can't use until leopard is on the prowl..
Here is another article using 10.5.1 that may be closer to what you need: http://maketecheasier.com/how-to-dual-boot-ubuntu-gutsy-and-mac-osx-leopard-1051/2008/02/28
