i have just installed 'the perfect server-centos 5.2' and things went pretty much as advertised. once operational, i plan to go through no-ip.com to get the server on the net. the router is a linksys wrt54g and i am using one of the linksys ports. my wife and son are using other ports. i used 192.168.1.10 for the my server, but the configuration does not seem to work. on the router, domain name,ip address, net mask default gateway and dns, and dhcp all belong to comcast. do i transfer these settings to my server? the reason i am asking and not doing it is i have crashed the system so many times my wife and son threaten to make me use two tin cans and a string to get on the internet. as you probably figured out, i am on my own with this project and am turning to you for any help you care to give. thanks in advance jim s.
router and centos server the router address is 192.168.1.1. i can ping it from the server. if you need it, i can give you all of the router settings. the server has a fixed address of 192.168.1.10 and the router (dhcp enabled) gives out addresses between 192.,168.1.13 and 192.168.1.150 i did not install dns on the server as i am using comcasts temporarily. hope this helps. if you need more information, p.l.e.a.s.e let me know. thanks jim s.
You can use the following settings: IP 192.168.1.10 Gateway 192.168.1.1 Netmask 255.255.255.0 Network 192.168.1.0 Broadcast 192.168.1.255 Please make sure that you use working nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf (e.g. 145.253.2.75 and 213.191.92.86).
