HI guys, I am a newbie and green to the world of Linux. I have installed phpmyadmin however, I am unable to start it. I am not using ISPconfig and I do not have a domain (Is it necessary?). But whenever I try 'http://localhost/phpmyadmin' it gives me a 404 error. I have tried almost everything with the config.inc.php file that the walkthroughs told me to no avail. So I pull out the error log for apache2 and here it is: [Tue Mar 07 19:49:24 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /home/pushkar/phpmyadmin [Tue Mar 07 19:49:24 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Tue Mar 07 19:49:32 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/phpMyAdmin [Tue Mar 07 19:49:33 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Tue Mar 07 19:50:17 2006] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down [Tue Mar 07 19:50:18 2006] [notice] Apache/2.0.54 (Ubuntu) PHP/4.4.0-3ubuntu1 configured -- resuming normal operations [Tue Mar 07 19:50:22 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/phpMyAdmin [Tue Mar 07 19:50:22 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Tue Mar 07 19:50:23 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/phpMyAdmin [Tue Mar 07 19:50:24 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Tue Mar 07 19:51:20 2006] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down [Tue Mar 07 19:51:21 2006] [notice] Apache/2.0.54 (Ubuntu) PHP/4.4.0-3ubuntu1 configured -- resuming normal operations [Tue Mar 07 19:51:37 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/phpMyAdmin [Tue Mar 07 19:51:37 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Tue Mar 07 22:48:22 2006] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down [Wed Mar 08 10:18:17 2006] [notice] Apache/2.0.54 (Ubuntu) PHP/4.4.0-3ubuntu1 configured -- resuming normal operations [Wed Mar 08 11:09:52 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /home/pushkar/phpmyadmin [Wed Mar 08 11:09:53 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Wed Mar 08 11:18:15 2006] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down [Wed Mar 08 11:18:16 2006] [notice] Apache/2.0.54 (Ubuntu) PHP/4.4.0-3ubuntu1 configured -- resuming normal operations [Wed Mar 08 11:18:26 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /home/pushkar/phpmyadmin [Wed Mar 08 11:18:26 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Wed Mar 08 11:18:36 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Wed Mar 08 11:18:53 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /home/pushkar/phpmyadmin [Wed Mar 08 11:18:53 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Wed Mar 08 11:18:57 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Wed Mar 08 11:18:57 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /home/pushkar/phpmyadmin [Wed Mar 08 11:18:57 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /home/pushkar/phpmyadmin [Wed Mar 08 11:18:57 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Wed Mar 08 11:19:02 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Wed Mar 08 11:19:05 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /home/pushkar/phpmyadmin, referer: http://localhost/ As you can see, I even tried to put phpmyadmin directory under my root folder . But then it gave me a 403 error. I am completely lost. Any kind of help would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Pushkar

Ok, and you're using http://localhost/phpmyadmin, not http://localhost/phpMyAdmin or anything else (Linux is case-sensitive)? Do you see the default Apache page when you use http://localhost ?
I get the same error with either URI (I am using http://localhost/phpmyadmin). I can see the directory structure with http://localhost in which I have two directories: apache2-default and phpmyadmin (Yes, 'm' and 'a' in smallcaps) Thank you for your interest falko.
Resolved Hi all, I have just resolved the problem I was facing. I was just looking at the httpd.conf and found the entry: Code: Alias /phpmyadmin/ "/home/pushkar/phpmyadmin/" I changed that to: Code: Alias /phpmyadmin/ "/var/www/phpmyadmin/" ... and I was done. Thanks falko and till, without you I would have given up on phpmyadmin. Great tool by the way. Hope someone else will find the thread useful.
