I followed this setup tutorial for ubuntu 8.10: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-ubuntu-8.10-ispconfig-3 Everything seems to be working fine, ftp, mysql, domains, etc... but I can't login to mail accounts, I followed the steps exactly. I just ran newaliases in ssh, but I still can't login to squirrelmail No matter what I do, whatever username I use, it won't me login. I don't know if this means anyhting, but "/etc/mail/aliases" file is empty even after running "newaliases"
Are you sure the "/etc/mail/aliases" file is the correct one? You need to fill this file by yourself to add aliases for local user. If you don't do so, it will stay empty. Is [email protected] a local user of did you add it as an email user? I have noticed that where it is a local user, you don't need to add the domain name to login in by Squirrelmail. Did you also create any Maildir for the local user? Please correct me if I am wrong.
I created the user in the ISPconfig interface, I tried logging in with andrew, andrew+splitnetworks.com, [email protected], etc... Nothing is letting me login, I don't know why... I created the mailbox/user in ispconfig
Hmm.. you changed your post considerably after the first responses.. My respons for newaliases was about the 95% error messages in your original post. Regarding the location of aliases; if it's in /etc/mail on your system, change postfix; postfix expects aliases in /etc on your system (that's what is says). Regarding not being able to log in: Don't use your emailaddress, but your username to login. That can be the same (andrew), but also a different name. (normally, use a "to=" username that you stuffed from the logfile). Paul

THIS IS AWESOME This is why: I followed this HOW-TO first: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-ubuntu-8.10 Then I followed: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-ubuntu-8.10-ispconfig-3 Apparently you shouldnt follow both don't know how I managed that , but I formatted the server, and just followed ispconfig-3 howto!! WORKS like a charm!
Good job When I started to get my server running I took from several Howto's the instructions. That caused problems as well. Since I use one howto my server is running as I want. Have fun running your server
