I have a problem with my mail server . I can't seem to send or receive any e-mails. When i try send an e-mail to a domain on my server i receive the following error.

    Code:
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its recipients after more than 24 hours on the queue on server01.domain.tld

    The message identifier is: 1MMiuu-0005JM-RA
The subject of the message is:
The date of the message is: Fri, 3 Jul 2009 16:34:56 +0300

The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:

      [email protected]
Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<[email protected]>:
host mail.gokceimam.com [188.40.51.146]: 421 Unexpected failure, please try later

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up, and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.
Does anyone know what can be the cause for this ?

I followed Falco's The Perfect Server - CentOS 5.3 x86_64 [ISPConfig 3] tutorial and didn't face any errors during installation steps

    Within /var/log/exim/main.log the entries
    Code:
    2009-07-05 04:11:40 unknown named domain list "+relay_domains"
    2009-07-05 04:11:45 unknown named domain list "+relay_domains"
    2009-07-05 04:12:01 unknown named domain list "+relay_domains"

    Panic.log have similar entries

    Within reject.log i have

    Code:

    # of all parameters. For the syntax, and for a complete parameter
    # list, see the postconf(5) manual page (command: "man 5 postconf").
    #
    # For common configuration examples, see BASIC_CONFIGURATION_README
    # and STANDARD_CONFIGURATION_README. To find these documents, use
    # the command "postconf html_directory readme_directory", or go to
    # http://www.postfix.org/.
    #
    # For best results, change no more than 2-3 parameters at a time,
    # and test if Postfix still works after every change.

    # SOFT BOUNCE
    #
    # The soft_bounce parameter provides a limited safety net for
    # testing. When soft_bounce is enabled, mail will remain queued that
    # would otherwise bounce. This parameter disables locally-generated
    # bounces, and prevents the SMTP server from rejecting mail permanently
    # (by changing 5xx replies into 4xx replies). However, soft_bounce
    # is no cure for address rewriting mistakes or mail routing mistakes.
    #
    #soft_bounce = no

    # machines, you should (1) change this to $mydomain and (2) set up
    # a domain-wide alias database that aliases each user to
    # [email protected].

    # compatible delivery agent that lookups all recipients in /etc/passwd

    #
    # If this parameter is defined, then the SMTP server will reject
    # mail for unknown local users. This parameter is defined by default.
    #
    # To turn off local recipient checking in the SMTP server, specify
    # local_recipient_maps = (i.e. empty).
    #
    # The default setting assumes that you use the default Postfix local
    # delivery agent for local delivery. You need to update the
    # local_recipient_maps setting if:
    #
    # - You define $mydestination domain recipients in files other than
    # /etc/passwd, /etc/aliases, or the $virtual_alias_maps files.
    # For example, you define $mydestination domain recipients in
    # the $virtual_mailbox_maps files.
    #
    # - You redefine the local delivery agent in master.cf.
    #
    # - You redefine the "local_transport" setting in main.cf.
    #
    # - You use the "luser_relay", "mailbox_transport", or "fallback_transport"
    # feature of the Postfix local delivery agent (see local(8)).

    # to access the passwd file via the proxymap service, in order to
    # overcome chroot restrictions. The alternative, having a copy of
    # the system passwd file in the chroot jail is just not practical.

    # TRUST AND RELAY CONTROL

    # The mynetworks parameter specifies the list of "trusted" SMTP
    # clients that have more privileges than "strangers".
    #
    # In particular, "trusted" SMTP clients are allowed to relay mail
    # through Postfix. See the smtpd_recipient_restrictions parameter
    # in postconf(5).
    #
    # You can specify the list of "trusted" network addresses by hand
    # or you can let Postfix do it for you (which is the default).
    #
    # By default (mynetworks_style = subnet), Postfix "trusts" SMTP
    # clients in the same IP subnetworks as the local machine.
    # On Linux, this does works correctly only with interfaces specified
    # with the "ifconfig" command.
    #
    # Specify "mynetworks_style = class" when Postfix should "trust" SMTP
    # clients in the same IP class A/B/C networks as the local machine.
    # Don't do this with a dialup site - it would cause Postfix to "trust"
    # your entire provider's network. Instead, specify an explicit
    # mynetworks list by hand, as described below.
    #
    # Specify "mynetworks_style = host" when Postfix should "trust"
    # only the local machine.
    #
    #mynetworks_style = class
    #mynetworks_style = subnet

    # which case Postfix ignores the mynetworks_style setting.

    # Specify an explicit list of network/netmask patterns, where the
    # mask specifies the number of bits in the network part of a host

    #
    # By default, Postfix relays mail
    # - from "trusted" clients (IP address matches $mynetworks) to any destination,
    # - from "untrusted" clients to destinations that match $relay_domains or
    # subdomains thereof, except addresses with sender-specified routing.
    # The default relay_domains value is $mydestination.
    #
    # In addition to the above, the Postfix SMTP server by default accepts mail
    # that Postfix is final destination for:
    # - destinations that match $inet_interfaces or $proxy_interfaces,
    # - destinations that match $mydestination
    # - destinations that match $virtual_alias_domains,

    # (parent) domain appears as lookup key.
    #

    #
    # To use the old cyrus deliver program you have to set:
    #mailbox_transport = cyrus

If you followed the tutorial i'm not sure you are supposed to have exim running?

if you followed the tutorial then you should have postfix running.

I am pretty sure i followed each step very carefull. I also don't understand why exim is still running. Is there anyway i can correct this easily ?

Well in my opinion i would see with yum list exim witch package is installed and removed it with yum remove. If you installed postfix you should be able to start it with /etc/init.d/postfix start and add it to auto-start on boot with command from tutorial chkconfig --levels 235 postfix on

Also don't know about exim but if it is deamon runing try turning it off with same way as you turn on postfix, so check for exim in /etc/init.d/ and see what you come up with?

If it's there then u can run /etc/init.d/exim stop and then after chkconfig --levels 235 exim off

Thing is i don't have exim installed so all this is based on some preassumptions.

    Hope it helps :)

Well can you post now /var/log/mailog ?

Inside it you should be able to see whats going on with mail.

(file might be really big so check it out and try to send the last relevant info, also do sending in/out mail and then send log file)

Ok, first of backup files you edit.

    You should make /etc/postfix/main.cf

    mydestination = localhost, localhost.$mydomain

look like this or a variation of this, becouse you allready made destination hosts with ispconfig witch are writen in your sql database so postconfig reads sql and this and there should not be 2 times the entry, so try going with suggestion i made you.

after that requing all messages in console:

    postsuper -r ALL

see what heapens, this should solve your reciving mail problem

Restarting amavisd gives the following error

    Code:
    [root@CentOS-53-64-minimal etc]# service amavisd restart
Shutting down Mail Virus Scanner (amavisd): [FAILED]
Starting Mail Virus Scanner (amavisd): The value of variable $myhostname is "CentOS-53-64-minimal", but should have been
a fully qualified domain name; perhaps uname(3) did not provide such.
You must explicitly assign a FQDN of this host to variable $myhostname
in amavisd.conf, or fix what uname(3) provides as a host's network name!
                                                               [FAILED]

I changed the hostname to correct value after this. Restarted amavis twice and amavis started correctly. No new log entries within /var/log/maillog however no e-mail is delivered yet

Ok , correctly receiving e-mails now. Thanks for your help :)
