Hi All, I'm using an ISPConfig 3 virtual appliance, updated to latest version and updated debian. Everything is working fine except email. I can receive email fine, but can't send to external addresses. When I try I get this error: <[email protected]>: host mx2.hotmail.com[65.55.92.136] said: 554 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied (in reply to RCPT TO command) Now, googling for this error and searching the forums seems to suggest this is an smtp auithentication error. I've also tried with entourage and get an error about 'server returned invalid authentication information' (or something, I don't have it in front of me)
I think you'll need to use the "relayhost" to link your server to your ISP's one. Then you'll probably need to authentify, but I'm not able to help you authentify since I didn't do it for my server yet.
why would I need a relay host? port 25 isn't blocked by my ISP so I can go straight out to the internet, I have a reverse dns pointer in place, I can receive mail fine etc but something is preventing remote servers from accepting mail from my server.

I changed this in my main.cnf: Code: myhostname = ispconfig.deicist.co.uk myorigin = /etc/mailname mydestination = ispconfig.local, ispconfig.deicist.co.uk, tankcoffee.com, deici$ and changed /etc/mailname to this: Code: ispconfig.deicist.co.uk now I don't get a bunce message... but emails still aren't being delivered to the remote mailbox (it's a hotmail account).

tail mail.warn reported this: Code: Aug 26 18:06:01 ispconfig postfix/trivial-rewrite[32700]: warning: do not list domain tankcoffee.com in BOTH mydestination and virtual_mailbox_domains removed it, now I get bounce messages reporting relay access denied again.
You have to remove the domain from the mydestionation setting in postfix main.cf and then add it in ispconfig as email domain.
I did remove it from main.cnf, it's already added in email domains. Anyway, I worked around the issue by adding a relay host (an exchange server that's running mail for a different domain). I'm not particularly happy about this solution, I shouldn't need a relay host really...but it works. Cheers.
