I was reading the post listed at: http://how2forge.org/installing-and-configuring-openfiler-with-drbd-and-heartbeat and was wondering if it it possible to set up something like this without the direct connection between the two nas machines. I have 2 networks connected via vpn and would like to set up a backup openfiler at a remote location and have the primary openfiler sync to it for backup purposes. Is this possible?
The problem is that you need a virtual IP, and this doesn't work if both systems are in different subnets.
So is there another method that might accomplish this same task? I am trying to avoid having to use a 3rd system to backup from one openfiler to another.
Don't ask me how because i'm still learning but... DRBD has 2 way to replicate: Synchronous and Asynchronous
