Hi, have just worked through this "howto" and have afew questions. I have set IP addresses as required for my home network and all is well. However if I need to move the server to another network using a different set of IP adresses (particularly the gateway there uses 192.168.11.0 whereas mine is 192.168.0.0) Will this be an issue? If so how do I proceed? Many thanks from a complete Linux newbie. Ron
Thanks for the info. I thought that might be the case, do I also need to edit the machines own IP address as well as the gateway address. As the router at the other venue uses DHCP and there are a variable number of PCs on the network connected wirelessly I never know which IP addresses are already in use. Should I use a really high one like 192.168.11.255 to stay clear of the ones which may already be assigned Assuming I need to edit the gateway IP on the ubuntu machine - HOW do I do this as it was originally set during the setup of Ubuntu and EHCP? Many thanks for your understanding and patience - I have basic Windows network knowledge but not the knowledge of Linux or Ubuntu. Thanks Ron
You should use an IP that is outside your DHCP range. Take a look at your router configuration to find out what your DHCP range is. You can do this in /etc/network/interfaces.
