Hi. I've been following this guide from the site, which is excellent, and have successfully set everything up. I can log in to Squirrelmail, send and receive through that, change my password etc. but when I try to set the mailbox up in Thunderbird or Claws, I get authentication failures. The SMTP and IMAP settings are correct, and I know that I've entered the username and password exactly, but still it fails. Looking in /var/log/mail.log, there's a lot of this: Am I supposed to be able to use this with desktop clients as well as the webmail interface, or do I need to do something else in order to have that kind of functionality? Yeah, I use the email address as the username. In Thunderbird, this results in a message telling me either the username or password is incorrect.
Can you compare your saslauthd configuration with the one from chapter 6 on http://www.howtoforge.com/virtual-users-domains-postfix-courier-mysql-squirrelmail-ubuntu9.04-p2 ?
