I am doing a fresh install of the perfect setup Karmic Koala. Not yet to the point of installing ISPConfig. I believe I followed the isntructions perfectly but I get to the point if installing bind and I have 2 issues. 1) On reboot I get the error message that says something to the effect of cannot start apparmor, error on line 40 of /etc/apparmor/functions. I tried to uninstall apparmor again, twice. Same issue. 2) At the point when it tells me to move the bind directory, I enter the line: mv /etc/bind /var/lib/named/etc It tells me cannot stat, "/etc/bind/" nosuch directory exists. I'm stumped. I even tried starting all over reinstalling bind. No luck. Any help is greatly appreciated

Her ya go. Falko, Thanks for the help. I got the apparmor issue fixed. Got the solution from another thread here. As for the Bind issue. I'm somewhat of a rookie, so I was following the instructions step by step. syslog Falko, I did aptitude remove bind9 and then started the bind install process over. It seemed to work until I tried to restart bind. It failed. Did you create a zone in ISPConfig? BIND should be running afterwards (but you don't have to create a zone if you don't want to run your own nameserver).

Ok, just move on with the tutorial. Once you've installed ISPConfig and created your first zone (which you don't have to do if you don't need your own nameserver), BIND should start to work.
Bind installation Falko, Will do. BTW, what are the benefits or drawbacks of running my own nameserver? Also, It looks like the issue is that it's not finding named.conf file in /etc/bind. I've looked and the file is not there. Are you certain Falko, I am continuing with the install despite my bind issues. However, in several parts of the setup, when installing packages, the install program attempts to start bind in order to , at which time it reads "fail", the install continues but I am worried that the lack of bind is affecting many of the other installs. I didn't have that problem when I wrote the tutorial, so there are two possibilities: - Something changed in Ubuntu since I wrote the tutorial. - Maybe you did something wrong - please double-check that you exactly followed the instructions. However, I still don't think this is a problem for your overall installation.
New question Falko, Just FYI. I started over. I believe I found out what I did wrong. I started the installation following the ISPConfig 3 instructions then somehow switched over to the ISPConfig 2 instructions right about the page where it begins Bind installation.
