    Quick question:

I like the concept of Google Docs.

I want to know if it's possible to use some combination of LAMP and OpenOffice to do the same thing but for a private network? ie clients on the network to use firefox for documents like google docs etc.

    Thanks.

Look up webdav. Set up a location on your remote server to look like a local disk to OpenOffice.

No, that would still require each client to install openoffice and would require each require to use webdav. I wanna do what google docs does: provide via http interface.

    Thanks.

Then you would have to write the http enabled applications or install something like webasyst (http://www.webasyst.net/). There may be a foss solution someone else can suggest.

Another thought is to run a virtual machine server where you have the applications installed on the virtual machine and users access thru remote desktops.
