I am going through each of the steps in the Perfect Server Tutorial, but I have hit a couple of errors. Firstly, I couldn't find any packages with the lib64xorg. No such package exists. I attempted to reason that the 64x was for a 64-bit system, and I simply installed the packages listed on the MCC that matched the updates specified in the tutorial but without the 64x. I did the same for the sasl files. Now, I am done configuring Dovecot, and trying to move the S99ntpd files, but they do not exist in the /etc/rc3.d directory: drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2010-08-18 14:55 ./ drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 4096 2010-07-26 12:46 ../ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2010-08-18 14:55 K00dhcpd -> ../init.d/dhcpd* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2010-08-18 14:55 K00netconsole -> ../init.d/netconsole* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-08-18 14:55 K00preload -> ../init.d/preload* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 2010-08-18 14:55 K09dm -> ../init.d/dm* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2010-07-26 12:14 S03ip6tables -> ../init.d/ip6tables* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2010-07-26 12:14 S03iptables -> ../init.d/iptables* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2010-07-26 11:46 S09resolvconf -> ../init.d/resolvconf* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-07-26 12:07 S10network -> ../init.d/network* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2010-07-26 12:07 S12syslog -> ../init.d/syslog* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 2010-07-26 12:04 S13msec -> ../init.d/msec* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-07-26 11:46 S13partmon -> ../init.d/partmon* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2010-07-29 16:55 S14acpid -> ../init.d/acpid* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 2010-07-26 11:46 S17alsa -> ../init.d/alsa* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2010-07-26 12:07 S18sound -> ../init.d/sound* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2010-07-26 11:58 S26lm_sensors -> ../init.d/lm_sensors* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-07-26 13:25 S29numlock -> ../init.d/numlock* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2010-07-26 12:05 S40atd -> ../init.d/atd* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2010-08-18 14:55 S50network-up -> ../init.d/network-up* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2010-08-18 14:55 S51netfs -> ../init.d/netfs* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-08-18 14:55 S51openvpn -> ../init.d/openvpn* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2010-08-05 14:49 S52mysqld -> ../init.d/mysqld lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2010-08-18 14:55 S52mysqld-max -> ../init.d/mysqld-max* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2010-08-18 14:55 S52saslauthd -> ../init.d/saslauthd* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2010-07-26 11:45 S53messagebus -> ../init.d/messagebus* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2010-08-18 14:55 S54avahi-daemon -> ../init.d/avahi-daemon* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2010-07-26 11:47 S54haldaemon -> ../init.d/haldaemon* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2010-08-18 14:55 S54udev-post -> ../init.d/udev-post* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2010-07-26 12:01 S55memcached -> ../init.d/memcached* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 2010-08-18 14:55 S55sshd -> ../init.d/sshd* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-08-18 14:55 S57dovecot -> ../init.d/dovecot* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2010-08-18 14:55 S86named -> ../init.d/named* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-08-18 14:55 S86proftpd -> ../init.d/proftpd* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-08-18 14:55 S87postfix -> ../init.d/postfix* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2010-08-18 14:55 S88mandi -> ../init.d/mandi* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2010-08-18 14:55 S90coherence -> ../init.d/coherence* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2010-07-26 12:07 S90crond -> ../init.d/crond* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2010-07-26 12:01 S90dc_server -> ../init.d/dc_server* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-08-18 14:55 S90hddtemp -> ../init.d/hddtemp* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2010-08-18 14:55 S91smb -> ../init.d/smb* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2010-07-27 12:21 S91vncserver -> ../init.d/vncserver* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2010-08-18 14:55 S92httpd -> ../init.d/httpd* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-07-26 12:07 S95kheader -> ../init.d/kheader* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-08-18 14:55 S95mailman -> ../init.d/mailman* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 2010-07-26 12:46 S99local -> ../rc.local* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2010-08-18 14:55 S99webmin -> ../init.d/webmin* It is the same in rc4.d and rc5.d. Am I missing something? Also, the S52mysqld file is highlighted in red and flashing. What does that mean?
that worked. Thank you. Now, I just can't connect via telnet. It always tells me that the connection fails. I even tried a different port, and it still failed. I ran nmap, and it reported my port 25 to be closed (distinction: closed not blocked. I verified this with my ISP.) I must have missed a step somewhere. Have you any suggestions.
You mean, connect to SMTP? From where? From the same host, or from outside? What's the output of Code: netstat -tap ?
