which installation guide did you use to install the server? and which username did you use to authenticate at the mailbox? Email users are alwas identical with the complete email address and not just the part in front of the @.

Squirrelmail by default can not change any passwords in ispconfig. But there is a plugin available for that: http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38437&page=28

Please ask the plugin developers in the thread of the plugin. This plugin is not from the ispconfig project and not hosted in our svn, so I can not tell you anything in detail about it.
