As I plan on learning how to setup a Linux server, I want to follow one of the tutorials of this site (Most likely Ubuntu Server as the distro is the one I'm most familiar with) how to setup a Linux server (most likely ISPConfig 3 too as where this question thread is posted). Problem is that I don't have a test computer in which I can just install the server to learn. I'm considering using Virtualbox for now as practice until I can get a new computer and use the older computer (most likely) when time comes. But I want to have an overview on how to fully set up a server from scratch. I don't really have any experience yet in setting up a server but I thought I have to start somewhere. My question is that what are the things you have to consider when you will setup a server in Virtualbox? Is it even possible? Can it also be accessed outside the network? Thank you in advance
It's exactly like setting up a physical server. Yes. Yes. But you must configure your router to forward all necessary ports (like 80 for http).
