installing ubuntu acording to your guide one must adapt /network/interfaces
then your advise: "echo server1.example.com > /etc/hostname" does seem that "server1" is name of server and "example.com" is the domain.
But I didn't meet a possebility to enter the domain name.
In which file can I enter the domain name ? Only in one file ?

but... in editing /etc/hosts the line 127.0.0.1 is no problem, but 2. line
    192.168.0.100 server1.example.com server1 is impossible here, n cud be
    192.168.1.49 ubuntu.????????.nl ubuntu
here I need a domain. so I can't execute this command.
therefore: where can I put my fqdn ?

Create a hostname for your server in DNS and use it in /etc/hosts.
For example, if you have registered the domain yourdomain.com, go to your registrar's control panel and create an A record for server1.yourdomain.com that points to your server's public IP.
