I am trying to find a very very simple postfix guide that explains the concepts behind the program. Ive tried following the official basic setup but for some reason I still cant manage to get anything to work and I feel that I dont really understand the system. Should I use SendMail instead?
Hi there signature16 This link might help you with postfix..... http://postfixwiki.org/index.php?title=Main_Page But what i would recommended is sticking to postfix and look into making sure that you have Dovecot installed...... Also make sure you do a search in the forums for Dovecot and postfix..... Also if you prehaps outline your problem with postfix im sure others will love to help you solve the issue you are having... regards brainz
thanks for the reply. is postfix or sendmail better? .. or better yet, which one should I learn first?
Hi signature16 As far as i am aware its best to use postfix and Dovecot with ispconfig at least i can say i use this conbination and it works without a issue at all.... regards
I use postfix and dovecot in a production environment of about 150 people. IT works perfectly. Postfix is alot easier to config than sendmail. You only need to change about 4 lines of config to get postfix to relay mail. Need any help let me know! I can recomment O'Reillys definitive guide to postfix for any newbie
Sendmail in the past has had alot of security issues. I am running both sendmail and postfix. On two seperate servers of course. Postfix is alot easier to configure.
Did you have a look at these tutorials? http://www.howtoforge.com/virtual_postfix_mysql_quota_courier http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_postfix_virtual_hosting http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_postfix_virtual_hosting_2 http://www.howtoforge.com/howto_postfix_smtp_auth_tls_howto and also the Postfix section in the "Perfect Setups"?
