This is a fresh install of ISPConfig on CentOS 6.5 x64 following The Perfect Server Howto and this is the only thing between now and going live. I wish I understood this stuff more, I've been googling for a couple of days and I have searched this forum, but either couldn't find what I'm looking for, or it really doesn't exist yet. I am able to recieve emails (at least the initial "Welcome to your new account" email), but am unable to send. Are you able to send Email to a local address? If yes, then sour problem is most likely related to the fact that the server is not live yet. Nice to hear that you like my software ISPConfig
:O If I got the wrong person, or perhaps ISPConfig is bigger than just one person, sorry. I do love your software, Till! Using SquirrelMail, I am able to send email to any address I want. Using ThunderBird receiving mail works just fine, but fails with the aforementioned error. I think that it is a postfix auth problem, but I don't know how to fix it Thanks in advance!!

Are you able to send a email with thnderbird to the address of the account that you created in thunderbird (a email to yourself)? I also read that the dovecot.conf was pointing to /etc/dovecot-sql.conf when it should have been pointing at /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf but I don't see how that would produce these results. An update: I ran the ISPConfig's /tmp/ispconfig3_install/install/update.php and updated the services, configurations, etc, made sure the suggested changes were taking place. I also regenerated keys and certs for postfix/dovecot and made sure to use the fqdn of the server (not the hostname) This one seems a little telling as there are some TLS issues in the beginning and then the "not owned by user" thing comes up again. Public vs. NAT IP Address FYI, I have a very-similar configuration to yours (CentOS 6.5 x86_64 with dovecot and Apache following the Perfect Server HowTo). The main difference is that I built my server on a public IP address since I've had a lot of grief in the past with building my server on a NAT IP address and then expecting things to work OK. So the first thing I did before building my server was to obtain a public IP address and ensure that Reverse DNS was properly build to point back to my server name at my public IP address. With that said I have not had any large issues with getting other mail servers to accept my output email messages. AOL bounced me due to too many reports on my (brand new) IP address, but I rather think they confused my Comcast Business IP address with a general home user IP address, which isn't the least bit fair as I have my incoming email filtered by Postini/Google and nobody else can get to port 25 due to iptables filtering (as a Cisco professional routing engineer, if you needed iptables help I could fix you right up; iptables has a lot in common with router access lists). Anyway, I was concerned about this part of your error message: "helo=<[192.168.1.7]>" That doesn't seem to be the correct "helo" message. If you are trying to connect to something outside of your own LAN, then in fact that IP address isn't owned by you when you get to the other side. You might want to take a look at that.
Good eye, but that's from Thunderbird out of my home. The server is sitting straight on the internet, with its own static IP and is able to send email to any of my other addresses (from SquirrelMail sitting locally on the box) just fine, including my hotmail address and gmail. It's when I'm trying to send from outside the box, not from localhost(127.0.0.1) that this is happening. As in, logging onto Postfix from home, authing, handing the message over, and logging out. Dovecot does all this just fine, Postfix is being elusive. Thanks for the consideration, though.

That looks like that that there's maybe a problem with your SMTP Server configuration?! Just a guess. I had similar problems once and changed the SMTP to use the SMTP Server of mi ISP, which is an Open Relay Server. Using several Domains, each with it's own Mail-Server Domain and set my Desktop and Laptop Mail Client's TheBat Pro for all to mail.mydomain.com (while mydomain.com is the actual Domain name). Only in ISPConfig I had set in System ->Server Config under the Mail tap the Relay Host to the SMTP of my ISP. That just works fine for send an receive Mails from any location. By the way, I didn't use the DNS Zones in ISPConfig, because I use 1 static/public IP only, I use A Records via the Domain Registras and their Nameservers to point to my static IP.
There is a problem with the ssl cert from postfix. It seems to be broken. Ok, now I don't see the TLS error in the log, thanks!! I've moved the server to fully live in hopes that it was an issue of being quasi-up. All DNS records point to this server now, just like they did to the old, CentOS 5/ISPConfig server (that worked totally great, thanks!!) Yes, MX does point to this server, it does have a DNS entry that can be dug at jechosting.com. No firewall or router, this machine sits directly on the internet. Reverse DNS comes up with a hostname that Comcast assigned (this is a business account with a static IP) so I've fixed my hostname to match that. Ok, I don't know if this is the way it's supposed to be or not, but in master.cf: Code: submission inet n - - - - smtpd -o smtpd_tls_security_level=encrypt -o smtpd_sasl_auth_enable=yes -o smtpd_sasl_type=dovecot -o smtpd_sasl_path=private/auth -o smtpd_sasl_security_options=noanonymous -o smtpd_sasl_local_domain=$myhostname -o smtpd_client_restrictions=permit_sasl_authenticated,reject -o smtpd_sender_login_maps=hash:/etc/postfix/virtual -o smtpd_sender_restrictions=[B][SIZE="4"][COLOR="Red"]reject_sender_login_mismatch[/COLOR][/SIZE][/B] -o smtpd_recipient_restrictions=reject_non_fqdn_recipient,reject_unknown_recipient_domain,permit_sasl_authenticated,reject was causing the issue. I don't know if it's a big security hole to take that out, but without it, I can send email again just fine.
If you want to allow your users to send with sender addresses that differ from their mailbox login, then its ok to remove that. Jan 7 08:37:44 host dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<myvalidemail@ispconfig>, method=PLAIN, rip=my.home.ip, lip=isp.configs.ip.address, mpid=17054, TLS as the addresses in the line must have been different if the issue was caused by "smtpd_sender_restrictions=reject_sender_login_mismatch" becase in the log you posted is the sender address and login address the same.
IMAP/Dovecot works fine. That was the whole of the important bits of the log, before that was just after I restarted dovecot/postfix/saslauthd and there were just startup messages. Anyway, it's running fine for now, I'll ponder what to do later, for now, I'm going to give it a rest. Thanks again for your help and for ISPConfig!! Gruss Gott!
