I don't know if this belongs here or not, it seemed to be the most appropriate place, so, sorry if I'm putting this in a weird spot. I run my own IMAP server and am trying to get Thunderbird to set up automatically. I have set up GoDaddy's DNS MX records to point to my server. nslookup shows that the MX points to my server, so I know that the zone file has updated, but when I put my credentials into Thunderbird, GoDaddy defaults populate. I hope I'm being clear enough, I don't know how all of that works, so I don't know exactly what to say. Thanks in Advance Edit: I'm going to leave this here, I'm not going to lose any sleep if someone wants to delete it, but I thought it would be helpful. It turns out that Thunderbird maintains a database and looks at that first to determine settings. I don't know about Outlook, though.
Thunderbird maintains a database of all the ISP's mail servers. So you are able to get the automatic configuration of the email accounts. FOr details see link.
Thanks, yeah, I finally found that out and fixed that. Here is the solution for Outlook http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...settings/7b9045b3-fbfd-44dd-8521-8d7e39d7d1d8 And for Mozilla https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Thunderbird/Autoconfiguration
