Mailman Install

Discussion in 'General' started by David Alvarez Ortega, Feb 8, 2024.

  1. I have a server up and running with the email running on a second server. Everything works fine.
I can´t remember if I checked the mailman option initially but have seen that it is actually installed, allthough I don't know the version or if it is actually setup for ispconfig.
I would like to set up mailman without starting from scratch as a client needs to use mail lists.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Ubuntu 20.04 Ispconfig 3.2.8p1

PD: This post might be better somewhere else but I don't know how to move it now :(

I believe Ubuntu 20.04 comes with mailman3. ISPConfig does not support mailman 3. ISPConfig used to support mailman2, but mailman 2 and 3 are very different applications.

Check out the Ubuntu 20.04 perfect server guide on how to install it, then run an ISPConfig update and choose to reconfigure services during update.

  6. Will do as told. Let you know in a bit! :)

  7. Sorry, a little bit puzzled ... how do I access the mail list after creating the user via ispconfig?

  8. I understand the install and update should be done on el email server (second server) not the apache server (first server).
Not sure if this can be done since web and mail are on different servers.

If you have separate systems, then you must install mailman on the mail server indeed.

  10. So for the web server side off the install is it BEST recomended to install Apache on the mail server as well?

Mailman comes with its own management gui, you can not use that if you do not install a web server.

  12. When I add a newlist I recieve the links to the new list administration. Because domains refer to client domains that are on the server1 apache server I have no access to the mail server2 apache where Mailman is installed.
Can I edit the mailman default apache domain creation to include a subdomain (see below) that I can create on the DNS server to point to server2?

The mailing list `allt' has just been created for you. The following is some basic information about your mailing list.

    Your mailing list password is:

    99999999999

You need this password to configure your mailing list. You also need it to handle administrative requests, such as approving mail if you choose to run a moderated list.

You can configure your mailing list at the following web page:

    http://subdomain.client_domain.es/cgi-bin/mailman/admin/allt

The web page for users of your mailing list is:

    http://subdomain.client_domain.es/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/allt

You can even customize these web pages from the list configuration
page. However, you do need to know HTML to be able to do this.

There is also an email-based interface for users (not administrators)
of your list; you can get info about using it by sending a message
with just the word `help' as subject or in the body, to:

    allt-request@client_domain.es

To unsubscribe a user: from the mailing list 'listinfo' web page,
click on or enter the user's email address as if you were that user.
Where that user would put in their password to unsubscribe, put in
your admin password. You can also use your password to change
member's options, including digestification, delivery disabling, etc.

Please address all questions to mailman-owner@client_domain.es.

  13. After rebooting mail server newly created email accounts fail to logon, old accounts work fine. Trying to debug problem but I am totally stuck.

    dovecot: imap-login: Disconnected (auth failed, 1 attempts in 2 secs) : user=<[email protected]>,method=PLAIN, rip=192.168.100.250, lip=192.168.100.251, session=<8qOuQGkRKKDAqGT6>

The new account can logon to email admin but not on roundcube or desktop mail client.

  14. I can see the user on the server1 (main server) mail_user table but not on the mail_user table of server2 (mail server)

  15. Okay. I have updated both server to 3.2.11p and this is now working.

Still cant fix my problem with Mailman on two servers.
