Check the list of email forwards and aliases. You can not have an Alias / Forward and an email mailbox with the same name. Delete the forward or Alias if you want to keep the mailbox. Your issue is not related to changing a password; when you click save, all conditions for having this mailbox are rechecked, which uncovered the problem; this problem was then reported to you as an error message.
