    Hello,
in my /var/backup/ispconfig directory are these files located:
    -rw------- 1 root root 82K Jul 9 03:00 dbispconfig_2025-07-09_03-00-20.sql.gz
    -rw------- 1 root root 87K Jul 10 03:00 dbispconfig_2025-07-10_03-00-19.sql.gz
    -rw------- 1 root root 979K Jul 9 03:00 etc_2025-07-09_03-00-21.tar.gz
    -rw------- 1 root root 980K Jul 10 03:00 etc_2025-07-10_03-00-20.tar.gz
    -rw------- 1 root root 5.4M Jul 9 03:00 ispconfig_2025-07-09_03-00-23.tar.gz
    -rw------- 1 root root 5.4M Jul 10 03:00 ispconfig_2025-07-10_03-00-21.tar.gz

What are all the necessary steps or restoring my ISPConfig 3.3.0p2 installation to the 2025-07-09_03 state? And what could go wrong other than losing all changes after 2025-07-09_03?
    Thanks in advance!

Why do you want to do that? Restoring should only be the last possible option.

Why would I keep these backups and what for then? Let's assume an unauthorized, drunken person gained access as administrator and fooled around. I want go back to the state saved in the backup without tracing the damages. Sites and mailbox backups were stored outside the ISPconfig system., the acme.sh content as well.

They exist as a last resort to recover from a catastrophic system failure or when you wiped out large parts of your server like deleting parts of /etc directory or the ISPConfig database.

In that case, you can unpack the archives you find there and copy back files from these archives to restore the parts you deleted.

But restoring parts of your system from such a backup always means bringing it into an inconsistent state, so one would never do that if there are other options to fix it. That's why I asked what your issue is, as restoring these backups is likely not the best course of action for you.

Okay, thank you! I am not complaining just trying to understand what functions I am really gaining by keeping these backups.
