Hello all! I'm new here. I'm required to make a thread for my sysadmin class. I'm struggling to stay motivated. I figured I would make this post as real as possible: what cool projects, creative uses, and fascinating rabbit holes keep you all invested in further linux developments, projects, and research?
because *nix are created for networking, offline, background, remote running, etc. Simply great for internet era. Also, it is completely open-source and free to use. Everybody can provide and contribute a little bit, from a little money, a little bit editing, to actual code programming. It also pose itself as a competitor against proprietary software.
It's Windows that keeps me motivated. Windows Update can take an hour out of your life. Apt update && apt full-upgrade can be less than a minute on the same dual boot device. Oh and I can control almost everything on a Linux device while even changing the height of the taskbar on Windows is a fudge. For SysAdmins it really is no contest. I use KDE which means Dolphin (the file manager) can just show different servers as easily as you have different local directories. And you can just cut'n'paste config files between servers, edit them live with Kate for those that don't revel in vim. (Don't try this with big files). Konsole is Ctrl-T away if you want to ssh in. I could go on. But if you have a modicum of geekness it's really no contest. Anyway thank you for hoping to get better answers from us than ChatGPT. I hope we won't disappoint.
