Hello Howtoforge memebers. Planning to create a multiserver ispconfig setup on proxmox. A noob question, normally i create a vm's for each guest node but someone suggested creating ct is better. Any knowledge on this or anyone one with such a setup and have experience with proxmox guets for ispconfig. Thanks HMZ
I guess for functionality of the nodes it should make no difference if it is a vm or ct. Though a ct will be more depended of the host where a vm is all by itself (besides using the host's ram and diskspace of course). Therefor a vm will require a bit more resources from the host. I have a few proxmox nodes running multiple linux servers as both vm and ct. But none of them are running ispconfig so I can't tell you from experience. Just an educated guess.
Nope. Do not use container for ISPConfig especially when you need to use quota and other kernel functions that ISPConfig might need to use. VM is the easiest and safest options. Many tried but failed miserably already. You can find a lot of them complaining in this forum, so no to container for ISPConfig for reasons I mentioned above.
Makes perfect sense together with this mention So the host has to be 100% compatible with ispconfig needs to be able to run ispconfig as ct. And even then it's not guaranteed to be fully functional. I maybe should already have said it in my previous post but I too would definitely opt for vm if I would install ispconfig in proxmox. Just for the reason not to be host depended alone is reason enough for me.
