It may be a little unusual, but i think it maybe useful to be able to change the default dns entries that are created for each website. even on a per reseller basis. i tried enabling the default mx option but my new sites aren't actually creating a mail A record in dns at the moment. In the manual it says mail A records should be created and default MX pointed at them, but my system points the default MX at www host, which works fine, but still confused some of my users who expected to point their outlook clients at mail.domain.tld, or pop3.domain.tld and these weren't responsive to their dismay. Simple little house keeping issues for interaction between us knowledgable admins and the neophytes we serve.
indeed you can manage the individual records on the dns server, but the default setup for me just sets up www and point the default mail to that,, it would be nice to be able to create a default template for your dns configuration, much like a hosting plan option (by default have mail. and ftp. as well as www. pointed at the server ip) This is just as often when moving people from one server to another, they have their ftp clients or mail programs pointed in that way and are used to it. if your hosting over a hundred domains I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy to go through the interface altering every single record for every domain in the system. That would be torturous. If i learn enough to write code for this system, i'll see what i can do to add such a feature i guess .
Yes, I'm trying to do the same thing. When I create a site on the ISP System, I would like it to create the following DNS records by default: A Records- -mail -ftp -www -irc MX Records- -mail.domain.com SPF Record- -just a standard SPF It seems like this would be something that a lot of users would want and there might be pre-made forms/templates that you could simply import and overwrite the old dns form/template(s). If there is a easier way of doing this by editing something in BIND9, then please let me know. I don't know PHP very good at all. I can look at it and figure out what it does but not always. By having this feature you could have a fully automated Control Panel that would bill the customer and setup there account with the correct DNS Records with no problems. So I guess my question is; are there any ways of doing this and if so could you please point me in the correct direction or even give me a link to a "HowTO" page??
I understand that, but I don't know that much about PHP, and I have tried but with no success. Right now it is just kicking my butt! lol (good thing I backed up everything!) I understand if you don't have the time falko, but would it be possible to have you type me up one for ftp and everything that would be great! I noticed you did it for this person (http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=365), but it was done through PM, so no other users were able to see it haha... If you want, just send me what you sent him! haha that would make it easier on you. Thanks, Zach
If I remember correctly we didn't do this for some reason. Maybe we were too expensive or something like that...
