I have a few questions.

1) Is it possible to run ISPConfig without compiling it? Since it's written in PHP, I am just wondering.
2) Seeing as it is written in PHP, can the code be modified and then compiled?
3) Any such changes to the PHP, can they be submitted back to team for consideration?

1.) You do not compile ISConfig, you compile the apps shipepd with ispcnfig, like ispconfigs own apache 1.3 (inlcuidng mod_ssl and php5) as well as clamav, spamassassin etc.

1.a) PHP is an interpreted language (like perl) so there is no way / need to compile the php scripts.

2.) see 1.) or on what changes do you refer to any special "change"?

If you mean bugfixes etc. you can participaty and help buy checking ispconfig out via SVN and upload your updates via that. For more info about SVN ask till / falko

 

Upgrade over 2.2.6

Can we upgrade over 2.2.6 on a server with 30 (static and dynamic) sites or do you think it's too risky?

 

Having a problem updating ISPConfig 2.2.6 to 2.2.7 on FC4.

I've updated ISPConfig a couple of times now, never really had problems with it untill this version.
I untar, go to the dir, do the setup thingy and then it gives me:

ERROR: MySQL is not running! Please start your MySQL database and run the ISPConfig setup again.

Result: it crashes the ISPConfig Web Server and stops updating.
I have to manually restart, "/etc/init.d/ispconfig_server restart", my ISP Config Web Server.

Any solution?

HD Space shouldn't be a prob or anything.

 

You might have to put

in the restart section of your mysqld init script, as shown here: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_centos_4.4_p4

 

Updating another softwares...

In the begin of this thread till talk about some updtes in PHP, OpenSSL and SpamAssassin.

I have to do this updates with my own hands or this Setup update their for me?

Another question, I install the 2.2.7 RC1. Are there many changes in this new version?

For information, I install my ISPConfig server following the Perfect Setup to Ubuntu 6.0.6.

Yes, installing this new version you will get 83 new errors, 37 new incompatibilities and 1 or 2 new heart attacks.

 

I had a similar problem on debian - waited for ages for ispconfig installer to get going.

I realised that since I had turned on the automated backup mechanism, and my sites were too big for it - I had lots of 1.3 gig half-backed up temporary zip files in /home/admispconfig/ispconfig/temp .

It was taking the installer ages to zip these up into a backup file - which it eventaully did (a 45gig zip!).

So the lesson is - clean out your temp file before upgrading!

 

Last night installed on 3 servers, working like swiss watches ;-D Thanks boys a lot.

 

The latest version is 2.2.27, so you should have installed that one instead of 2.2.7.

Yeah I've got 2.2.27 I just thanked in wrong post. However the update guide from this post worked for 2.2.27 as well.

 

Just did a full update on my Debian etch13 without any probs

Regarding The long waiting when preparing files, i guess people just have to start the update and go make a cup of coffe instead of panicking
It quite logic that the more sites you have the longer its gonna take the system to compress the backup.

So either sit and stare at your monitor for 5 -> ~ minutes or learn to drink coffe

And be happy that it makes a backup, i bet it would be worse if something went wrong (wich it newer does) and no backup was there
