Disk quota exceeded sendmail

hello all;
i have a problem with quota and (i belive) spam assassim.

one user has 12 MB of quota, use pop3, spamassassim is enablem with DISCARD option. Whem i send e-mail to this user, i receive this message below:

I use maildir, and mailbox of this user is empty.
What is this???

That user has exceeded his disk quota. He must delete some unused files, or you must increase his disk quota to solve this problem.

But the mailbox of this user is empty, this user use pop to get messages.
I belive the DISCARD option on spamassassim is not DELETE the messages.
whem you say "delete some unused files", you talking about emails files? or other files?? how i delete if the user uses pop to get emails???
I increase the disk quota and works fine, but i belive the problem is not resolved.
