I'd try to install this mplayer rpm package instead: ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/atrpms.net/el4-i386/atrpms/stable/mplayer-1.0-62_rc2.el4.i386.rpm It's for RHEL 4, but should work on CentOS 4 as well. You can use http://rpm.pbone.net/ to search for rpm packages.
