Sometime next month I will be getting a 20Mbit up/down line in my house (it's on fiberglass).

At the moment I have 2 servers at a data center (100Mbit), and as the contract is up for renewal I was thinking of hosting one of the two servers on my own 20Mbit line. I can get more IP's (for the name server).

The server does use a lot of data (about 300GB a month), but this is not a problem as I get 'unlimited' bandwidth.

What I'm not sure about is if 20Mbit up/down is enough.
Anyon here who might have some more info on this?

That line allows for 5TB traffic per month... :)
But I think you should worry more about redundancy - what if that connection fails?

Where do you get that line from, and what do you pay? Maybe it's time to move to the Netherlands... ;)

    Hi falko,

Yes.. Doing the maths it will give me about 5TB if needed :)
The sites on the server are not any 'file download' sites, so I'm not really worried about to many people downloading 'big' stuff at the same time.

Redundancy could be a problem, but the ISP has not had any big problems the last years, and if so, it was fixed within a hour.

The ISP is called Unet, and if I want I could even get 30Mb/s up/down (it's comes with TV and phone)
When my contract with the TV provider runs out, I will upgrade to this account as at the end it will be cheaper :)

    40 EUR/Month... That's not fair - I'm paying 30 EUR for a 16MBit/1MBit line... :-(
