Sometime next month I will be getting a 20Mbit up/down line in my house (it's on fiberglass). At the moment I have 2 servers at a data center (100Mbit), and as the contract is up for renewal I was thinking of hosting one of the two servers on my own 20Mbit line. I can get more IP's (for the name server). The server does use a lot of data (about 300GB a month), but this is not a problem as I get 'unlimited' bandwidth. What I'm not sure about is if 20Mbit up/down is enough. Anyon here who might have some more info on this?
That line allows for 5TB traffic per month... But I think you should worry more about redundancy - what if that connection fails? Where do you get that line from, and what do you pay? Maybe it's time to move to the Netherlands...
Hi falko, Yes.. Doing the maths it will give me about 5TB if needed The sites on the server are not any 'file download' sites, so I'm not really worried about to many people downloading 'big' stuff at the same time. Redundancy could be a problem, but the ISP has not had any big problems the last years, and if so, it was fixed within a hour. The ISP is called Unet, and if I want I could even get 30Mb/s up/down (it's comes with TV and phone) When my contract with the TV provider runs out, I will upgrade to this account as at the end it will be cheaper
