about installation

    dear pls help me
    i am installing RHEL4 and i want to make my system a squid and mail and samba server tell me what the minimum space i give to these directories
    /var
    /boot
    /home
    /root
    /usr

    Are you running out of space or what is your general question?
    And why do you want to give space to directories explicitly?
    I'd just put them in one partition with at least 1.5 / 2GB, in case the storage for mail and samba is put elsewhere.

    /boot need only 10 or 20 Mb

    That depends on how often you do a cleanup here, as many e.g. a centos server running since 2006, getting the kernel updates from the plus tree as well, would have now about 54MB...
