I was reviewing ISPConfig and can't find a way for admin to add/remove php modules. Does this have to be in cli or ISPConfig allow you to do that? This is important because when we provide a control panel do dedicated server customers many of them don't have cli knowledge and the top requested feature is adding php modules like curl, gd, etc. If not, are there any plans to add this feature in the future?
PHP modules are normally installed when you setup your server as they belong to the linux distribution and not ispconfig, thats not a task for a hosting control panel. Modules like curl and gd should be always installed on your server. Giving this control to your clients is not a good idea as they might also add malicious modules or modules that affect websites of other clients then.
Well, I was not talking about clients.. but the control panel admin. Panels like ISPManager, H-Sphere, etc they all support adding PHP modules and it gives the power to the control panel admin to perform that (not the client ofcourse). Take this in the context where we are system admins (managed dedicated) but the dedicated server customer has control panel admin rights.
If you like to see such a Linux software package manager in ISPConfig 3, then make a feature request in the Bugtracker: http://bugtracker.ispconfig.org When it gets enough votes from the other users then it will get included in the roadmap for future versions.
