I've set up my main client templates for 'budget', 'silver' and 'gold' packages and now wish to create an addon template to add just 1GB of storage to a particular client. I went to create a new additional template and was confronted with a pre-filled form containing many limits which already contridict my main templates. Sure, I could edit the "Web Quota" limit to "1000" MB's which I'm relatively confident will add 1GB of storage to whichever client this template is applied to, but I'm worried about the other pre-filled settings. How will they affect my existing templates? Should I delete all the other fields or set them at '0' before I save it? If so, I wonder why they are pre-filled to start with? For example: Traffic quota is set by default in the addon templates at "-1" but in my main templates, I've ammended this as I can't afford to give most clients unlimited bandwidth. If I don't edit this in the additional template, won't any customer to whom I apply this addon, get upgraded to unlimited bandwidth? I find this really unclear :-( I appreciate your help.
I purchased the manual but upon browsing through it, would you believe it... for most of the settings of ISPConfig it just tells you to edit the text box to change the value of that field (I would probably have figured that much out myself). What it lacks is any kind of explanation of what each field or setting does :-( Anyway, I digress - Any light which could be shone on the above dilemma would be very much appreciated.
The field names should be self explaining. So which specific field do you not understand? Regarding addon templates, the values get added to the normal template. If you dont know how it works, I recommend that you try it by createing a new addon template and then assign it to a client which has already a main template.
My clients won't thank me for using them as guinea pigs. Best to get this kind of info from manuals, or from those who know (which is why I bought the manual after all). Perhaps if someone knows the answer they could post it here please? If my life depended on it, I think I would clear the form first and then just enter the values that I want added to the main template, but hopefully someone's already been here before? Thanks in advance. Thought for the future: It would be useful if there was a tab for 'Actual Limits In Force' for a customer or domain, where the result of applying any additional templates is computed and the resulting limits displayed.
This tab is avaliable in ISPConfig of course, it is called "Limits". The limits shown on the Limits tab are the computed result of the main template plus the additional template, so every value that you see on the limits tab is the one that is enforced for that client.

I now have the answer. For anyone else who wants to know how to use this thing, it seems that you have to delete all the values of the pre-filled limits in the additional template, before you enter only the values that you want added to the values of your main template. If you don't do this, your client who was only allowed upto 15 mailboxes, will suddenly be allowed unlimited mailboxes and pretty much every other value would get messed up too. Another thing to be careful of is that there appears to be a bug in the applying of the additional template. It can be replicated as follows: Create a client. Create a template based on the main template, in which 'URL Cron' is selected. Save the template and apply it to the new client. Create an additional template based on the addon template, where the only value on the form is '1000' in the 'Web Quota' field and where 'URL Cron' is selected (because unfortunately something has to be). Delete all other values on the form. Save the addon template. Apply the addon template to the new client and save the record. Go back and check the client record on the 'Limits' tab and you will see that the cron type has changed to 'Full Cron' when in both templates we were careful to select 'URL Cron'.
I know this thread is old, but I just noticed the situation still has not changed: It would really help to clarify the usage of "additional" templates if there would be the option to set specific values "effective" (enable them) inside an additional template, and having all values set to "no effect" (disabled) by default when you start a new additional template. Then it would be very easy and convenient to have several different additional templates for such things as increasing web space, increasing number of mail accounts for a client etc.
