All Ubuntu servers have a file /etc/mailname, it is used by all mail applications incl. postfix. If its missing in your install, then there must be something wrong with the base setup and that should be fixed. 1) Restore the original amavis configuration. 2) Create a file /etc/mailname, it should contain the hostname of your server. the server hostname has to be a subdomain like server.yourdomain.tld and not e.g. server.yourdomain.tld. Check that this hostname is also used in the files /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname. then run: /etc/init.d/hostname start and check that the correct hostname gets displaed when you run: hostname and hostname -f If thats ok, then restart amavisd.
That confirmed my suspicions. I've changed the hostname to a FQDN and did as you instructed. Everything is working! Thanks!
