    Greetings,
    I have an issue with my ati video card on 8.1, I'm having difficulty with screen flashes. I tried to install the prop. ati driver but it keeps failing, here's what I get:

    rich@HCR:~/Programs$ sudo sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.28.8.run
    [sudo] password for rich:
    Creating directory fglrx-install
    Verifying archive integrity... All good.
    Uncompressing ATI Proprietary Linux Driver-8.28.8.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
    -e ==================================================
    -e ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer/Packager
    -e ==================================================
    Detected configuration:
    Architecture: i686 (32-bit)
    X Server: unable to detect
    Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install

    Next I did this:

    rich@HCR:~/Programs$ fglrxinfo
    display: :0.0 screen: 0
    OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc.
    OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R200 20060602 AGP 4x x86/MMX+/3DNow!+/SSE TCL
    OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 7.2

    Segmentation fault

    I see I'm using the mesa drivers but need to use ati, how can I fix this? TIA!
