I've applied the changes given in this howto (http://www.howtoforge.com/avg-antivirus-for-linux-freebsd-plus-sendmail-mail-server), and am having trouble with sendmail being able to open the milter. /var/log/maillog contains:

Feb 27 22:30:53 fcshome sendmail[12201]: q1S3Ur3w012201: Milter (avgtcpd): error connecting to filter: Connection refused by localhost

I applied the changes given to my .mc file and regenerated sendmail.cf. I applied the given settings to AVG and started it. restarted sendmail.

sendmail is configured to use port 10024, as is AVG.

checked and re-checked all the settings, and they all seem correct.

there ARE a couple of errors in the howto, though: in one place it shows port 1024 instead of 10024. and the entry showing the line to be added to the .mc file is missing "dnl" at the end.

This is on an up to date Centos 5.7, using sendmail: sendmail-8.13.8-8.1.el5_7

I'm open to suggestions on getting this working. thanks!
