i have an extra computer just sitting and i need a project so i was wanting to create a backup/ mirror server. so a complete copy of my main server. i was thinking that if there was a problem with the main server that the backup/mirror server could take over and keep the sites up and running. i have looked and did not see anything it there a howto for ubuntu 10.04 for this? thanks kwick
You can use a combination of rsync and MySQL replication to keep data in sync. If you want to have IP failover in addition to that, take a look here: http://www.howtoforge.com/setting-u...lancer-with-haproxy-heartbeat-on-debian-lenny
is there a howto on this and can this be used on the local machine on a spare drive? can this be run on 3 boxes instead of 4 Load Balancer 1 Web Server 1 Web Server 2 also from my understanding Debian and ubuntu are very close to each other could i use ubuntu for this setup?
We have rsync and MySQL replication tutorials here on HowtoForge. You can rsync files to a local drive. Yes, but this leaves you with a single point of failure (if the load balancer fails you've gained nothing). That should work.
