Falko: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_debian_etch_p4 When installing Bind it mentions to edit /etc/default/syslogd: SYSLOGD="-a /var/lib/named/dev/log" When using Etch I do not edit this file and Bind still logs to syslog. I would be interested if you found the same thing - or maybe I'm missing something you are aware of, but I am not.
