I am doing a fresh install of the perfect setup Karmic Koala. Not yet to the point of installing ISPConfig. I believe I followed the isntructions perfectly but I get to the point if installing bind and I have 2 issues. 1) On reboot I get the error message that says something to the effect of cannot start apparmor, error on line 40 of /etc/apparmor/functions. I tried to uninstall apparmor again, twice. Same issue. 2) At the point when it tells me to move the bind directory, I enter the line: mv /etc/bind /var/lib/named/etc It tells me cannot stat, "/etc/bind/" nosuch directory exists. I'm stumped. I even tried starting all over reinstalling bind. No luck. Any help is greatly appreciated
http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40889&highlight=/sbin/apparmor_parser Did you maybe previously move /etc/bind? What's the output of Code: ls -la /var/lib/named/etc/ ?
Her ya go. Falko, Thanks for the help. I got the apparmor issue fixed. Got the solution from another thread here. As for the Bind issue. I'm somewhat of a rookie, so I was following the instructions step by step. So I don't think I moved the /etc/bind/ Here's the output you asked for: total 8 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2010-04-03 21:16 . drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 2010-04-03 21:17 ..
syslog Falko, I did aptitude remove bind9 and then started the bind install process over. It seemed to work until I tried to restart bind. It failed. Here's the output of the syslog: Apr 5 06:49:01 server1 rsyslogd: [origin software="rsyslogd" swVersion="4.2.0" x-pid="690" x-info="http://www.rsyslog.com"] rsyslogd was HUPed, type 'lightweight'. Did you create a zone in ISPConfig? BIND should be running afterwards (but you don't have to create a zone if you don't want to run your own nameserver).
No ISPConfig yet I am not to the point of installing ISPConfig yet. I am on page 4 of the Perfect Server Ubuntu 9.10 setup. http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-ubuntu-9.10-karmic-koala-ispconfig-2-p4 At the end of the "DNS Server" section
Ok, just move on with the tutorial. Once you've installed ISPConfig and created your first zone (which you don't have to do if you don't need your own nameserver), BIND should start to work.
Bind installation Falko, Will do. BTW, what are the benefits or drawbacks of running my own nameserver? Also, It looks like the issue is that it's not finding named.conf file in /etc/bind. I've looked and the file is not there. From syslog: Apr 7 09:04:36 server1 named[2665]: loading configuration from '/etc/bind/named.conf' Apr 7 09:04:36 server1 named[2665]: none:0: open: /etc/bind/named.conf: file not found Thanks again for your help.
Are you certain Falko, I am continuing with the install despite my bind issues. However, in several parts of the setup, when installing packages, the install program attempts to start bind in order to , at which time it reads "fail", the install continues but I am worried that the lack of bind is affecting many of the other installs. For instance, when installing apache I get this: -------- Setting up apache2-suexec (2.2.12-1ubuntu2.2) ... Processing triggers for libc-bin ... ldconfig deferred processing now taking place Errors were encountered while processing: bind9 E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) A package failed to install. Trying to recover: Setting up bind9 (1:9.6.1.dfsg.P1-3ubuntu0.3) ... * Starting domain name service... bind9 [fail] invoke-rc.d: initscript bind9, action "start" failed. dpkg: error processing bind9 (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: bind9 Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Reading extended state information Initializing package states... Done Writing extended state information... Done -------- Are you certain I am not just wasting my time here? thanks, Jopa123
I didn't have that problem when I wrote the tutorial, so there are two possibilities: - Something changed in Ubuntu since I wrote the tutorial. - Maybe you did something wrong - please double-check that you exactly followed the instructions. However, I still don't think this is a problem for your overall installation.
New question Falko, Just FYI. I started over. I believe I found out what I did wrong. I started the installation following the ISPConfig 3 instructions then somehow switched over to the ISPConfig 2 instructions right about the page where it begins Bind installation. I am up and running. Thanks for all of your help.
