Hi,folks Can I compile the 2.4.x kernel from kernel.org on ubuntu 5.10 with 2.6.12 kernel? Is any more effort needed to compile successfully if I can do this way? Any suggestion or information is greately appreciately. -jack
Generally it is possible, but I guess you'll have lots of problems. Many of the options for kernel 2.6 don't exist for kernel 2.4, so you'll have to find out a working kernel configuration completely by yourself.
To have it very easy try the kernel script from SykHigh @ sysopforum.de It is very easy to handle, supports the 2.4 and 2.6 kernel tree (just the select the actual release), detects hda & sda devices for settint up the bootloader (grub / lilo) after sucessfull compilation. It is not a guarantee that it works fine afterwards, cause you have to configure the kernel, but it's reducing time.
Hi,Ben what is your meaning ?Do you mean that I can get some kernel script from e-mail:SykHigh @ sysopforum.de and it will make life easy to do my work? Thanks for your suggestion -jack
