I did an auto install of ISPCONFIG on a new server and then bought the migration tool to migrate the old server. The problem is my old server was apache and I tried to migrate to NGINX. I thought I was doing the right but not migrating from apache to apache caused much grief. I was getting mail on the new server but ISPCONFIG is driving me nuts. Every time I do something the control panel won't load. It is due to some confict between apache and ngnix. I want to completely delete all instances of ispconfig, nginx and apache and just start over. I just don't want to delete any mail accounts. After that I want to do an auto install without migrating and then just manually create the mail accounts on ispconfig that I need. The mail accounts themselves should already exist prior to installing ispconfig I assume? When I reinstall ISpconfig will it delete the accounts or will installing ispconfig already know about the mail accounts? I'm not sure. Also, I assume I should delete all instances of apache and NGINX before I do an auto install as well. One last question. I am way more concerned about mail than any websites. The websites I can recreate. I just don't want to loose mail. Where I am just trying to save mail would it make a difference which auto install I do? Apache or NGINX? If I can do this it will save days of trying to migrate things again and building another server. Thanks in advance for any replies. Art
I think you can migrate from ISPConfig single server to multi servers or vice versa, or just single to single, so it is possible to migrate just mail to new server. Also, if I am correct, you can also just copy it too. Anyway, since migration software is purchased, it is officially supported, so just setup new ISPConfig server, then migrate to it, and if you have any questions, I am sure ISPConfig Developers are very keen to assist.
No, you can't do that. Your old email will not get recognized when you reinstall ISPConfig. Also, you must reinstall on a fresh system anyway. Have you rented that server and do you still have the old server running? If yes, make a new migration from old server to the new Apache server using the migration tool. Test it and ensure it works. Then copy over /var/vmail from the failed migration to the new server with rsync, take care to keep file permissions and owners during that sync. Finally, if everything works, cancel the old server and failed server at your hoster. He should just run the Migration Tool using a new server as target. Ror fix the website hosts step-by-step as @remkoh suggested in the other thread. Or even better, reach out to @Th0m and ask for a quote to fix this for him. That's indeed the case, but he has not reached out to get any help from our support yet.
Thanks again! I did reach out to @Th0m and see what he says. It really depends on what he will charge if I go for another migration or try to let him fix this. Thanks again for the suggestion. Maybe I missed how to contact the actual person before. I appreciate all your help! Art
Thank you so much for confirming that I can't do that with mail. If I do another reinstall it will of course be from apache to apache with the original server while keeping the failing server online to keep catching current mail. Once the new server is successfully online I will try to copy the mail that is being processed by the failing server to the new one that hopefully works right. Linux is a love hate relationship! It is so cool but being as rusty as I am it's painful sometimes. I appreciate your help so I'm not just floating around without a game plan and so I don't lose mail. Art
