I was trying to install Debian Etch from xp according to what they said here http://howtoforge.com/debian_window...

During the process "Afterwards, the Debian-Installer Loader setup is completed, and you can click on Close:" I find an error prompt saying "unable to run cpio.bat". Next thing I know everything disappears and I am writing this message.

    Any feedback?

    Thanks!

    Out Of Temp Space?

Check to make sure you have enough space on c. Also your link did not work showing which method you are using. I installed Etch successfully after using a download manager and creating an ISO onto a dvd no problem

Ok, get a text editor and see what is in the Bat file

Then see if you have the permissions for the logon user to access the folders and files that the bat file refers to. You can try suspending all virus protection and firewall settings. You might be stalling because the Bat file is trying to write to the boot loader and your acount does not have write permissions?? guess guess ?? This area is generally hazardous and it is advised to make a backup logon profile as well as a backup hardware profile. Not to mention backing up important data.
