Alright, now I am just trying to get more experience in these set-up and trying my hand in the CentOS 5.4 perfect server - of course following the guide. I think, at least, this time around things are going a lot smoother. I made it all the way to step 18 without a snag. I cannot get the download of mydns to come through from - http://mydns.bboy.net/download/mydns-mysql-1.1.0-1.i386.rpm. The site (with and without the mydns host) is not pulling in a traditional browser from two different computers. Doing a trace route locally and externally show the site to be unresponsive/unreachable. Today is my 2nd day trying for this site. Is there another download location for the mydns i386 package (yes I actually need the i386 package since I am not to 64 level yet on my box)? Am I losing my mind is the site actually working for others out there? would another format work -ie gz? Thanks again. albert
Please install mydns-ng instead from source: https://sourceforge.net/projects/mydns-ng/files/ and follow chapter 13 from here: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-debian-lenny-ispconfig3-p4
Thank you, till. ok now again my own igornance comes in the way again. I was able to understand that some commands will change from Debian to CentOS, like get-apt to yum. But I however do not know what, "update-rc.d mydns defaults" translates to. I tried the suggested command from the CentOS Guide command of chkconfig. I get; Code: [root@beta mydns-1.2.8]# chkconfig --levels 235 mydns on service mydns does not support chkconfig [root@beta mydns-1.2.8]# what does this mean?
If I remember correctly, the init files on Centos contain some additional information for chkconfig. I dont have a centos setup at hand to tell you the exact lines, but if you look into one of the other init files (e.g. the one from postfix or mysql) , you will find some lines in the comment section at the beginning that define the boot levels for the software. If you copy these at the beginning of the mydns init file, it should be possible to register mydns with the chkconfig command.
