This is my first time (for setting up a server that is ) I went through this great tutorial: "The Perfect Server - Debian Lenny (Debian 5.0) [ISPConfig 3]" Everything works except from sending emails. This goes for both using PHP and squirrel webmail. I can however, recieve emails and read them using squirrel. I've got a static IP and I've checked it at http://mxtoolbox.com -- it returned: "Listed: 0 time(s)", so far so good. I've set the server up using accelerator.cern.no -- The place where I've registered the domain I've put this address as the mx host and set priority 1. As I stated earlier I'm fully able to get emails from gmail to my server. I hope some of you can share your time and experience with me. Thank you very much for your time and attention.
Some updates I've figured out that my ISP blocks outgoing on port 25. I figured this out by doing: "telnet smtp.cs4all.nl 587" (works) "telnet smtp.xs4all.nl 25" (doesn't work) What I've done is to add the following line to "/etc/postfix/master.cf" and restarted it after doing so. Furthermore, I'm not able to send mail using a client like thunderbird. I've clicked "TLS, if enabled" but I'm not sure what to put in the username field for authentication. I've tried both the email, [email protected] and the password I set in ISPConfig. But the server does not seem to want to authenticate me correctly with those details. What login information should I use?
Your ISP blocks outgoing connections to other servers on port 25, so it doesn't help if you configure your own server to listen on a different port.
