Cannot send mail, new install, First followed perfect server Ubuntu 12.04LTS, and finished with http://www.howtoforge.com/installin...tabase-cluster-on-debian-6.0-with-ispconfig-3 I made a mess when trying to get MySql install and replication to work and ended up uninstalling all MySql packages and then reinstalled them. After some reading I found a tip about postfix-mysql, I didnt it have any more and don't know why. reinstalled # apt-get -y install postfix-mysql Installed mailutils and tried to send mail from command line # mail -s "hello world" Don't work. Read this but not sure if applicable for me: http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showpost.php?p=305862&postcount=4 //millpark10 (URLs changed, not real) A bit of a longshot, but have you tried removing your hostname from Code: mydestination = jan1.kicks-ass.net, localhost, localhost.localdomain and keep just the localhost and localhost.localdomain entries?
Changed the line as suggested, # /etc/init.d/postfix restart Log entries seem to be the same. //millpark10

Code: ##### PORT CHECK ##### [WARN] Port 8080 (ISPConfig) seems NOT to be listening [WARN] Port 465 (SMTP server SSL) seems NOT to be listening That's strange. I guess you cannot access the ISPConfig webpage? Or are you running it on a different port? Apache is already running... What's the output of Code: netstat -tap -l --numeric-ports do you have the ispconfig.conf and ispconfig.vhost files in /etc/apache2/sites-available/ ? Do you then see them in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/ ? (they'll probably have a "000-" in front).
Running web interface on other port and can access it via https://ip-to-myserver on my LAN. Reading the mail logs via the monitor page. I Started to follow "The Perfect Server - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Apache2, BIND, Dovecot, ISPConfig 3)" and then continued and finished with "Installing A Web, Email & MySQL Database Cluster On Debian 6.0 With ISPConfig 3" When checking installed packages I can't find dovecot-mysql on my servers. In the Ubuntu perfect server it later says: "apt-get install postfix postfix-mysql postfix-doc mysql-client mysql-server openssl getmail4 rkhunter binutils dovecot-imapd dovecot-pop3d dovecot-mysql dovecot-sieve sudo" In the "Installing A Web, Email & MySQL Database Cluster On Debian 6.0 With ISPConfig 3" it says: "apt-get -y install postfix postfix-mysql postfix-doc mysql-client mysql-server openssl getmail4 rkhunter binutils dovecot-imapd dovecot-pop3d sudo" "dovecot-mysql dovecot-sieve" Is not included in Can this be the problem? Will I break (or eventually fix) anything by doing: # apt-get -y install dovecot-mysql dovecot-sieve Or is there a better solution? As this is going to be a production server I don't want to deviate to much from the "perfect setups". //millpark10 Output from what you asked for: # ls -las /etc/apache2/sites-available/ totalt 32 4 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 dec 19 23:50 . 4 drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 dec 18 13:15 .. 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1022 dec 21 00:19 apps.vhost 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 950 feb 7 2012 default 8 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7469 feb 7 2012 default-ssl 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1364 dec 19 23:32 ispconfig.conf 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2012 dec 19 23:50 ispconfig.vhost # ls -las /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/ totalt 8 4 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 dec 19 23:50 . 4 drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 dec 18 13:15 .. 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 39 dec 19 23:32 000-apps.vhost -> /etc/apache2/sites-available/apps.vhost 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 dec 18 13:15 000-default -> ../sites-available/default 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 43 dec 19 23:32 000-ispconfig.conf -> /etc/apache2/sites-available/ispconfig.conf 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 44 dec 19 23:50 000-ispconfig.vhost -> /etc/apache2/sites-available/ispconfig.vhost # netstat -tap -l --numeric-ports Aktiva internetanslutningar (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:10024 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 943/amavisd (ch2-av tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:10025 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 21140/master tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:3306 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 855/mysqld tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:110 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 833/dovecot tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:143 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 833/dovecot tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2087/apache2 tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8081 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2087/apache2 tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:21 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2013/pure-ftpd (SER tcp 0 0 172.17.2.181:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 869/named tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 869/named tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:22 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 685/sshd tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:25 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 21140/master tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:953 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 869/named tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:443 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2087/apache2 tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:18080 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2087/apache2 tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:993 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 833/dovecot tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:995 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 833/dovecot tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:41465 127.0.0.1:3306 ETABLERAD 943/amavisd (ch2-av tcp 0 0 172.17.2.181:3306 172.17.2.182:37713 ETABLERAD 855/mysqld tcp 0 0 172.17.2.181:22 172.17.2.114:47813 ETABLERAD 30222/sshd: ettan1 tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:3306 127.0.0.1:41317 ETABLERAD 855/mysqld tcp 1 0 127.0.0.1:110 127.0.0.1:59983 CLOSE_WAIT 1885/pop3-login tcp 0 0 172.17.2.181:51510 172.17.2.182:3306 ETABLERAD 855/mysqld tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:3306 127.0.0.1:41465 ETABLERAD 855/mysqld tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:41317 127.0.0.1:3306 ETABLERAD 11470/amavisd (ch8- tcp6 0 0 :::110 :::* LISTEN 833/dovecot tcp6 0 0 :::143 :::* LISTEN 833/dovecot tcp6 0 0 :::21 :::* LISTEN 2013/pure-ftpd (SER tcp6 0 0 :::53 :::* LISTEN 869/named tcp6 0 0 :::22 :::* LISTEN 685/sshd tcp6 0 0 :::25 :::* LISTEN 21140/master tcp6 0 0 ::1:953 :::* LISTEN 869/named tcp6 0 0 :::993 :::* LISTEN 833/dovecot tcp6 0 0 :::995 :::* LISTEN 833/dovecot //millpark10
No problem. I have very little experience and a linux newbie but many others are helping me on here so I might as well chip in where I can OK, so you're running the ispconfig on https port 443 so we can ignore the error regarding it not listening on port 8080. Your apache hosts look OK so it could just be a dovecot thing. I noticed that whilst dovecot is running on 143 (IMAPS) and 993 (SSL/TLS) for receiving, it's not running on 465 or 587 for SMTP outgoing. I followed the same guide (have my server running pretty much how I like it with Ubuntu 12.04LTS) Here's my output: Code: Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:110 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 8019/dovecot tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:143 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 8019/dovecot tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:465 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 7593/master tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:21 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 15167/pure-ftpd (SE tcp 0 0 80.1.2.3:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 4907/named tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 4907/named tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:22 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2503/sshd tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:25 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 7593/master tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:953 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 4907/named tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:993 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 8019/dovecot tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:995 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 8019/dovecot tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:9000 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3053/php-fpm.conf) tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:10025 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 7593/master tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:3306 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2594/mysqld tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:587 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 7593/master tcp 0 272 80.1.2.3:22 82.3.214.92:49896 ESTABLISHED 17600/sshd: xav And I have ports 465 and 587 open for listening which is the default for sending email over SSL/TLS and STARTTLS respectively. tfboy, thank you for trying, I just cant identify where to go from here. Changed # vim /etc/postfix/master.cf Restarted server at 11:10 # /etc/init.d/postfix restart edit: is this change to be done on both master and slave server? (stupid question?) Can not se any change at all in logs. Did wait (often stated in posts that changes take some time) before copying from monitor pages, copied again after 25 min. This problem might have occured by me changing guide (two perfect setups) at a point where some instructions and/or packages have not been installed, or the opposite, was erratically installed. tfboy's post above is mentioned in the 12.04 perfetct guide but is not mentioned in the "installing-a-web-email-and-mysql-database-cluster-on-debian-6.0-with-ispconfig-3". Any comment on the fact that "dovecot-mysql dovecot-sieve" Is not included in the later guide but is stated in the 12.04 guide? Is this Ubuntu specific and not needed with debian? Can this be the problem? Will I break (or eventually fix) anything by doing: # apt-get -y install dovecot-mysql dovecot-sieve Do I really have to start over from scratch and do a complete reinstall? //millpark10 Mail-Error - I tried to make my way through your posts... Did I get it right, that you have a debian squeeze (6.0) or even wheezy (7.0) server but used the ubuntu guide?? Why didn't you use the debian perfect server guide? Maybe your installation is quite messed up...
Hi Croydon No I have Ubuntu 12.04LTS as basic OS. I Started to follow "The Perfect Server - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Apache2, BIND, Dovecot, ISPConfig 3)" from start up to and including page 42, pargraph "11 synchronize the system Clock" Then continued and finished with "Installing A Web, Email & MySQL Database Cluster On Debian 6.0 With ISPConfig 3" From page 7 "Now we prepare the MySQLserver for mysql master/master replication" Due to changes in version I had to uninstall and reinstall MySQL to get the replication to work. //millpark10
[solved] Ok, solved, I think. Did # apt-get -y install dovecot-mysql dovecot-sieve # /etc/init.d/postfix restart on both servers and slowly the Mail queue went to "Mail queue is empty". It took almost 60 min to send 8 cli generated mails. That seems a long time though. Happy new year! //millpark10
