    Hi everyone,

After numerous rebuilds, I have finally gotten my ISPConfig 3 server mostly running. Right now I am having problems sending email's to certain servers, notably g-mail. Here is the output or tail -f /var/log/maillog:

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong? Also, I have numerous connections and disconnections from ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1] Is this normal? When I say "numerous" I mean hundreds per day.

    Thanks

    Hi maced0n,

I tried the link you sent me and I am not on the blacklist. I noticed a few things though.

    1. At http://mxtoolbox.com, I got the following error:

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 74.13.202.19:25

    2. Watching tail -f /var/log/maillog I notice the following:

    May 26 18:07:22 server1 imapd: LOGIN, [email protected], ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1], port=[40837], protocol=IMAP

The "Connection refused by [127.0.0.1]" catches my attention. Is it possible something is misconfigured on my machine?

    Thanks

Not sure what to do next, Postfix seems to be working, I can send mail to other servers, just gmail and other certain servers are timing out.

See if you can ping from the server in question any of the refused domains (alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com and so on).
If not, it might be a DNS isue.

    hi edge,

    No problem with the ping:

    [root@server1 ~]# ping -c 3 alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com
    PING alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com (74.125.79.114) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from ey-in-f114.1e100.net (74.125.79.114): icmp_seq=1 ttl=242 time=97.0 ms
    64 bytes from ey-in-f114.1e100.net (74.125.79.114): icmp_seq=2 ttl=242 time=98.0 ms
    64 bytes from ey-in-f114.1e100.net (74.125.79.114): icmp_seq=3 ttl=242 time=97.9 ms

I am going to go back and look at my dns setup. Since my ISP does not provide a static dns, I am using a dynamic dns service, (DNS2GO), fo my external IP.

Any suggestions where I should start digging?

    Thanks

As your DNS is working fine, than this is not the problem, and no need to do any digging in it.

    Hi edge,

So do you have any suggestions as what is going wrong?

    Thanks

    Tried some other things:

    [root@server1 tmp]# telnet alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com 25
    Trying 209.85.219.11...
telnet: connect to address 209.85.219.11: Connection timed out
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out

    [root@server1 tmp]# telnet mxmta.sympatico.ca 25
    Trying 67.69.240.17...
    Connected to mxmta.sympatico.ca (67.69.240.17).
    Escape character is '^]'.
    220 toip15.srvr.bell.ca ESMTP

    [root@server1 tmp]# telnet cluster3.eu.messagelabs.com 25
    Trying 193.109.255.115...
telnet: connect to address 193.109.255.115: No route to host
    Trying 193.109.254.83...

The second and third ones are interesting, because they are both smtp servers for my ISP, (Bell Canada). #2 is for residential customers and #3 is for business customers.

I sent an e-mail to gmail support, their website says that they will reply "within a few days".

Once again, any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    zog

Not sure and I can be wrong, but it looks like your provider is blocking port 25 for outgoing mail.

The only option for you is to use "mxmta.sympatico.ca" as outgoing mailserver.

But than again.. I could be wrong on this.

    Hi edge,

Just checked with my ISP, they say they don`t block any ports.

    Thanks

Have you also checked the SElinux, firewall or any outbound blocks on port 25?

    Hi macedOn,

I have SELinux disables, machine on the DMZ and the firewall is configured properly. I can also telnet in form my other computers.

I think it`s more of a configuration problem, since I can send to some email servers, but not all.

I am thinking maybe the TTL is set wrong or some other "small" configuration. I will start fiddling with it tomorrow.

    Thanks

    zog

BTW, does anyone know how to disable telnet? I would like to shut it down when I am finished using it.

Try logging into your gmail and sending to your mailbox. Let us know how you go.

Usually this problem happens because of outbound blocks or a improper DNS settings.

To check your DNS configuration you can use http://www.intodns.com/

Common ports and what they are used for.

These are a list of some common ports and what they are used for:

    Servers:

    DNS Server 53 UDP
    DNS Server 53 TCP
    Mail Server (POP3) 110 TCP
    Mail Server (SMTP) 25 TCP
    Secure Web Server 443 TCP
    Web Server 80 TCP
    Telnet Server 23 TCP
    Secure Shell Server 22 TCP
    News Server 119 TCP
    FTP Server 21 TCP
    TFTP Server 69 UDP

You can take your machine out of DMZ and open or close whatever ports you like.

    Good luck.

    Hi everyone,

A big thanks to macedOn, I had a feeling that the problem had to do with dns:

Is there anyone who can help me sort this out?

    Thanks

    UPDATE:

    I have contacted the following:

Godaddy, my domain registrar. They tell me that they cannot set up a PTR record for me.

DNS2GO, my dynamic DNS routing service. They tell me for $60.00 USD per DOMAIN PER YEAR, they can route my email traffic for me, they offer no other service.

Contacted my ISP, Bell Canada, (Sympatico). They were pretty much clueless, having no idea what I was talking about.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    zog

p.s. Since my ISP doesn't offer a static IP, I am using DNS2GO. If anyone knows of a dynamic DNS routing service that will allow me to enter PTR, please let me know.

    Thanks
