    Hello its me again with my second thread of the day :D

    Actually one of my server have a CentOS 3.7 with the kernel ;

    Linux server.domain.net 2.4.21-27.0.2.EL #1 Wed Jan 19 03:17:10 GMT 2005 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

    I would like to change the kernel of it, for a 2.6.x to install special virtualization apps and other stuffs,

    If i download and compile ok a 2.6.x kernel into the box, can i run this kernel without problems although was a 2.4.x distro ?

    I hope be clear, and thanks a lot for any answer!.

    Regards!

    You can try and compile/install a 2.6 kernel, but I'm almost sure that you will have lots of problems switching from 2.4 to 2.6... That's a big leap.

    Hello Falko thanks a lot for your quickly answer like always!.

    What kind of trouble do you mean ?? Troubles in the apps installed already like apache, php mysql or with the 3rd party apps ??

    Anyway is a server almost without use, i think there is nothing important on it, but always is better check before

    Yes, programs might refuse to work, it's even possible that the system won't boot anymore...
