Has anyone ever changed their main server's hostname, after having lots of clients and sites on it in ISPconfig3? I mean the domainname by which I also reach the ISPconfig webgui (System > Server config > Hostname: x). Is this going to be an issue, or is this not a big deal?
I would really like to know if this is going to cause issues or not. Can I change /etc/hostname of this ISPConfig server and then have everything still the way it is for all other domains?
It's not a big deal, though I haven't actually done it myself. That's not an uncommon question, there will be numerous answers to it in the forums here with specific steps to take.
I did the hostname change several times but I did not face any big issues though I also do not have clients (except my own separated accounts as resellers and clients for testing / familiarizing). I do think it should be changed in both /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname and not just one of them. And if I remember correctly, the hostname under System > Server config > Hostname and in all of the resellers / clients websites under it will be changed automatically. Lastly, after changing and testing hostname as correct and restart all relevant services, I would update ISPConfig and reboot as well.
